14 Years in Prison for Batley Drug Dealers

Four Batley men found guilty of dealing Cannabis to people in Batley have been given sentences totalling 14 years.

Zafar Hyder Iqbal, Jabbar Zafar Hyder, Ibrar Iqbal and Akhlaq Khan were sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on Friday 18th Nov after earlier pleading guilty to Class B drugs offences, uncovered during an 11-month operation by Kirklees police.

Sentences of 6, 4, 3 and 1 years were handed to each man respectively.

Between May 2008 and April 2009, officers from Kirklees police conducted an undercover operation into suspected drug dealing that was taking place from the Hot Spot Snooker Club on Bradford Road in Batley. As part of the investigation, further drug dealing was found to have been taking place from a property on Saville Street and a flat next to the Hot Spot Snooker club”. In all, £40,000 of Cannabis was seized during the operation in which all four men were arrested. £13,000 cash, a stun gun and bullets were also recovered.

DCI Andy White of Kirklees police said: “These men were so blatant in their offending that they allowed their drug dealing to be captured on their own CCTV cameras in the Hot Spot club. This arrogance only helped us to secure even more evidence against the quartet however and we are very glad to see each of them behind bars.

Following the sentences, a confiscation hearing will take place at a date yet to be set to discuss what will happen to the over £1million of property and assets that were also seized from the gang during the investigation.
