Police investigate £30,000 burglary

Detectives in Selby are investigating after thousands of pounds worth of wedding jewellery was stolen during a burglary.

The jewellery along with watches and electrical goods amounting to approximately £30,000 was taken when a house on Wenlock Drive, Escrick was broken into on Wednesday 9 November 2011.

It is believed that the burglary occurred sometime between 9.10am and 11.55am when the occupants were out.

The offenders smashed a rear panel of the back door with a brick and once inside took a large amount of Asian wedding jewellery, including bracelets, necklaces and earrings. They also took three watches, a men’s Tag Heuer, a ladies Gucci, and a ladies Raymond Weil, as well as laptop and a digital camera.

Officers, who have been making house to house enquiries in the area, are urging the public to assist the investigation.

Detective Constable Carol Kirk, of Selby CID, said: “Clearly the victims have been left very distressed by this incident, which is understandable due to the sentimental nature of the items which have been stolen.

“I am appealing to the public to help them get their property back and urge any witnesses to the burglary to come forward.

“I would like to speak to anyone who saw any suspicious people or vehicles in the Escrick area around the time of the incident. I would also like to hear from anyone who may have been offered any of the items for sale.

“In particular the wedding jewellery will stand out as it is very distinctive. If you have any information about where it is please, contact the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.”

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact DC Carol Kirk, of Selby CID, on 0845 60 60 24 7, quoting reference number 12110190062.
