Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision in which a 57-yr-old woman died.
The collision occurred on Monday 30 August at around 3.30pm on the eastbound carriageway of the A64 at Barton Crossroads.
The collision involved a black Volkswagen Golf and a Silver Peugeot 307.
A 57-yr-old woman from Bury in Lancashire who was a passenger in the Golf was airlifted to Scarborough District Hospital but sadly died as a result of her injuries. At this stage we are unable to release her identity.
The woman’s husband, who was driving the Golf, was uninjured. Three other passengers in the Golf, a woman and two boys aged 9 and 6 were taken to York District Hospital with minor injuries.
A 5-yr-old girl who was a passenger in the Peugeot was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with suspected spinal injuries where she remains in a serious but stable condition.
The male driver of the Peugeot was uninjured but a woman passenger and a 9-yr-old girl were taken to York District Hospital with minor injuries.
The road was closed while collision investigators examined the scene, it reopened at around 10pm last night.
