Harrogate police are appealing for witnesses following fatal road traffic collision on the A1.
The collision which occurred between junctions 48 and 47 on the southbound carriageway happened at just after 3pm on Thursday 26 August 2010. It involved a Mercedes Benz Sprinter van and a red Suzuki Swift motor car.
As a result of the collision a 23 year-old man from Thirsk, who was driving the Suzuki was taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary, with critical injuries, where he was pronounced dead on Sunday 29 August 2010.
A 34-year-old from Manchester, who a rear seat passenger in the Suzuki was also taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he was treated before being released.
A 21-year-old woman and seven month old baby were taken to Harrogate District Hospital where they were treated before being released. All of the injured people were in the Suzuki Swift.
Following the collision the 32-year-old driver of the Mercedes Benz was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. He appeared at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 28 August and was remanded in custody while police enquiries continue.
