Small and medium sized construction companies across North and West Yorkshire are being offered expert advice to reduce accidents, injury and ill health in the workplace.
A Safety and Health Awareness Day in Leeds next week will cover key areas to improve safety in one of Britain’s most dangerous industries via a series of presentations delivered by construction specialists on such topics as cutting roof tiles, working at height safely and occupational health.
Organised by the Health and Safety Executive and Working Well Together, the free event takes place at Leeds College of Building, on Intermezzo Drive, Stourton, on 8 September.
HSE Health & Safety Awareness Officer Richard Thorpe commented:
“Construction remains one of Britian’s most dangerous injuries. A total of 41 construction workers lost their lives at work in 2009/10, and three million working days are lost in construction every year due to workplace injury and ill health.
“The aim of this event is to not only raise awareness of key health and safety risks facing the industry, but also to give practical advice on how to avoid risks in the first place. The topics covered are vitally important to owners, directors or managers of small building firms or contractors.”
There are two opportunities to attend the event, with sessions commencing at 8am and 12.30pm. For further information, or to book a place, please contact Richard Thorpe at HSE on 0113 283 4260 or email richard.thorpe@hse.gsi.gov.uk
