Appeal: for Information – Fatal Road Traffic Collision – Ilkley

Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision which happened in the early hours of yesterday (22nd August). It happened just after midnight on the A65 Skipton Road between Ilkley and Addingham. A 39 year old local man has died after being hit by three vehicles, two of which failed to stop at the scene.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw the collisions or two vehicles leaving the scene without stopping.

The deceased is 39 year old Stephen Wood. We know that Stephen was drinking earlier in the evening in The Vaults public house in Ilkley. It’s possible that he left the pub and headed out of Ilkley along Skipton Road towards Addingham. We would like to hear from anyone who was drinking with him or saw him after he left the pub.

We are urging the drivers of both of the cars that didn’t stop after colliding with Stephen to contact us. I would also ask anyone who has suspicions about a friend or relative being involved to let us know. We are currently examining CCTV in the area with a view to identifying the drivers involved.

Anyone who has any information should contact Sergeant Carole Clayton at Major Collision Enquiries Team (MCET) on 01924 293 047 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
