Leeds festival visitors advised to plan their journeys

The Highways Agency is advising visitors driving to Leeds Festival this August bank holiday to plan their journey in advance.

The 70,000 fans heading for the Festival over the three days are advised to leave plenty of time to travel to the music festival at Bramham Park in Wetherby. Routes to the festival including the M1 and A1(M) are likely to be busier than normal.Drivers should be aware that all routes to the festival start via the A1(M) and/or the M1 and are signed from the motorways. There is no access to the Leeds Festival from any other route.The busiest times on the network will be Thursday 26 August and on the morning of Friday 27 August, as festival visitors arrive on site. Most traffic is expected to depart the site late on the evening of Sunday 29 August and before noon on Monday 30 August. The Highways Agency is working with the festival organisers, West Yorkshire Police, and Leeds Council to minimise delays on the roads. Additional Highways Agency Traffic Officers will be patrolling the festival traffic routes. Travel options including train times, coaches, shuttle buses and directions by road are detailed on the festival website, www.leedsfestival.co.uk. Festival visitors are asked to consider using public transport. Additional services have been laid on and these can often be the most convenient, stress-free and eco-friendly way to get there. If it is necessary for drivers to use their cars, then they are advised to plan their journey.

Drivers can obtain up-to-the-minute travel information by phoning the Highways Agency Information Line on 0300 123 5000; by accessing its website at www.highways.gov.uk; by tuning into the Highways Agency’s Traffic Radio, available on DAB digital radio and at www.trafficradio.org.uk, or tuning into your local radio station. The festival does bring extra traffic into the region and drivers are advised to plan extra time for their journey, take regular breaks and have drinking water with them.  Drivers should also ensure their vehicles are prepared for the journey, with plenty of coolant and fuel.

TRAVELLING TO THE FESTIVAL
All routes to the festival start via the A1(M) or M1 and are signed from the motorway. There is no access to Leeds Festival from any other route.

If drivers follow routes other than those signed from the motorway, by checking on a map, or using satellite navigation systems, they will not be able to get to site.
