Following a recent incident attended by North Yorkshire Fire Authority in which a member of the public received burns to his face, neck and forearms whilst attempting to light a garden bonfire using petrol we would like to remind people of some basic summer safety do’s and don’ts.
- Never use petrol to light a bonfire or barbeque
- Ensure that your barbeque is fully extinguished and cold before disposing of the contents
- Keep young children and ball games away from bonfires and barbeques
- Keep a bucket of water or garden hose nearby in case of emergencies
- Avoid using open fires in the countryside
