Drugs and cars seized in Thirsk raid

Drugs and criminal assets were seized after police raided a house in Thirsk.

Officers recovered a quantity of class A drugs, several cannabis plants and two cars during yesterday’s (Thursday 29 July 2010) raid at an address in Finkle Street.

Under the Proceeds of Crime Act, which ensures criminals do not benefit from money and property they have accumulated through their illegal activities, police seized a blue Audi A4 and a grey Renault Megane.

A 48-year-old man from Middlesbrough and a 32-year-old woman from Thirsk were arrested at the property on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and possession of class A drugs.

Sergeant Sharon Findlay, of Thirsk Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This was a really good result for us and the warrant was coordinated brilliantly by PC Topham and PC Cullen.

“We will not tolerate drugs or drug related crime in Thirsk and I am delighted that we have made two arrests and recovered property worth thousands of pounds.

“Criminals should not be able to live off the proceeds of their crimes and we will do all we can to ensure that we disrupt their illegal activities as much as possible.

“We will continue to target criminals in our area and ensure they don’t benefit from their crimes.”

The two people arrested have been released on police bail as enquiries continue.
