Cars driven by Austin Powers and a James Bond villain will take starring roles when thousands of motoring enthusiasts visit this year’s Bradford Classic.
Powers’ famous Union Jack-covered Jaguar and the XKR which took part in Die Another Day’s ice chase will be among more than 100 classic and high performance vehicles being displayed in Centenary Square over Saturday and Sunday, July 17 and 18.
Other highlights of the Bradford Council event include an exhibition of rare images of pre-war German car production taken by acclaimed photographer Zoltan Glass. The pictures, which will be on display at the Pop Up arts space, have recently been digitized by Bradford’s National Media Museum on behalf of Daimler AG.
The centenaries of the Ilkley and District Motor Club and the Bradford-built Jowett car company will also be celebrated. Cars from every decade of the past 100 years will be brought along by the motor club while an impressive Jowett Jason will be displayed.
A continental market will be in position from July 15 to July 18 and run alongside the event and a jazz band will also keep crowds entertained.
Coun the Rev Paul Flowers, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Culture, Tourism & Sport said: “The Bradford Classic always attracts huge numbers of car fans and the general public because of the exciting mix of vehicles on display and this year will be no different.
“The Zoltan Glass exhibition will add another fascinating aspect to the event and will be of real interest to car, history and photography enthusiasts alike.”
Traditional classic cars will be on show on Saturday, July 17, and the high-performance and competition vehicles will take centre stage the following day. The event will be open from 10am until 4pm each day and entrance is free.
