A paintbrush wielding PCSO has helped put charities ‘ in the frame’ for fund-raising success after taking part in an artists event in her patch.
The aspiring artist has submitted a painting depicting 50s life for the initiative which attracts entrants from across the community and is run by local artists Chris and Sandra McCarthy.
Each year the pair distribute around 200 canvases and sets of paint to those who want to take part to help create a wall of art which will go on display in the village.
Helen’s work will now be displayed in Haworth Main Street for two weeks from July 10, which is a 50s theme day in Haworth, before being auctioned off with all proceeds to be split between the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, PDSA and Manorlands.
Hoping to raise a good sum for charity through bids from within the Force and outside, Helen said she had enjoyed putting brush to canvas for a good cause.
She said: “I think its a really good idea as its something which involves the whole community and is open to anyone of any age as long as they are local, which is why I found it so nice to be asked.”
Always artistic, Helen said she had studied art at GCSE and A Level and used to help design and paint sets for a theatre group as a student.
“Last year I remember talking about the event with one of the organisers prior to it taking place and I thought they were joking when they asked me to take part. “However the following day a blank canvas turned up at Haworth Police Station with my name on it.
“This year they just pulled up at the side of me on Main Street and passed a canvas through the car window!” she said.
Adding that the event really brightened up Haworth and attracted tourists, the PCSO said she hoped plenty of money was raised for charities.
She added: “I really enjoy my work within the community and I am glad that I can put my personal skills to use to assist with events such as this, particularly as it is a brilliant event and the charities are such good local causes.”
