Wakefield Police Lead The Way In Teen Assitance

Wakefield police have engaged in a 23 week programme to encourage teenagers in taking an interest and understanding police matters. They have gone about this by selecting eighteen 16-18 year olds to interview victims of crime to see how they felt they were being dealt with by the police. The teens spend two hours every Wednesday with victims carrying out a survey composed by the police. They also spend time in the police station, each week learning about different aspects of the police profession. Superintendent Lee claimed that ‘this was an excellent opportunity for us as the police to increase the public confidence in us.’ Let’s just hope other district police forces can catch on and increase both knowledge to the youth and confidence to the community.
