Halifax Taxi Driver Assaulted.

On Sunday 25th April, at around 3am on Illingworth Road in Halifax, a taxi driver was forced to stop by a group of 8 youths who were in the road, and was subsequently assaulted.

The victim had stopped, wound down his window and asked the group to move.

One of the group then lent in and took the car keys. The driver then got out of his vehicle to retrieve the keys and was then assaulted.

The keys were then thrown back at the taxi driver who drove away from the scene. He was left with a swollen nose.

The suspect who took the keys is described as a white man aged between 19 and 21. He is 6ft tall, chubby, and ‘wild looking’ with scars on his cheeks. He also has short black hair and was wearing a black jacket at the time.

The other suspects are all described as between 16 and 20 years old. They were wearing tracksuits.

Inspector Tony Nicholson from Calderdale CID, said:

“Attacks on taxi drivers are not acceptable and we are treating this incident as a top priority.”

“We are working very closely with local taxi firms to prevent future incidents such as this and have already worked to get CCTV installed in some cabs.”

“I would appeal to anyone out there who knows who is responsible for this attack to come forward. Taxi drivers have a living to make and should be allowed to go about their business in safety.”

Any witnesses are asked to contact police on 0845 6060606.
